I had my first yoga experience in 2007. I was training for my first 5K run - and I had never run over a mile in my entire adult life, I was in need of a good athletic goal. While training at the gym I decided to try a yoga class. I had always wanted to try yoga but thought that it would be unsatisfying due to my chronic lack of flexibility, I mean I couldn't even touch my toes. Also, coming from the fast pace environment of martial arts I didn't think that "relaxing yoga" could keep my attention. The class started and just a few Sun Salutations in I was sweating and every major muscle was burning. The 60 minute class was coming to an end and the teacher lead us into savasana. Even with the echo of the racquetball courts and the Zumba music next door...I thought this final pose of ultimate relaxation - after such an intense workout - was the best thing ever. The next day, my very sore body made it's way to Target and I bought my first yoga mat.
Yoga has given me the perfect outlet to merge my athletic background with my medical knowledge. It keeps me engaged because with every class I am learning something new. The moment I see my body going further than it ever has or a difficult posture comes together, my practice is re-ignited. After several years of a growing personal practice, my solid love for yoga drove me on to complete my 200-hour Yoga Alliance certification through a Power Vinyasa studio in Seattle. Now as a Registered Yoga Teacher, I strive to share my passion and knowledge and hope to inspire great things out of great people.
