FREE "Mini" Hot Yoga Classes

What?  Free hot yoga?!  Just say YES.

This Sunday - November 18th - REVIVE HOT YOGA in Bonney Lake is hosting three free 25 minute classes followed by an open house to celebrate our recent finishers of our 30-Day Yoga Challenge.

Free classes....only 25 minutes long....this is the perfect opportunity to try hot yoga if you have never done so before so here's the low down.

3:00 "Mini" CORE Yoga - a great classes to learn poses, build core strength and bring awareness to breath.  This is a set series of poses that stay the during each class.  Very similar to the traditional 26 poses of Bikram/Hatha but it has a few little extra gems thrown in there.
3:30 "Mini" POWER Yoga - a more vigerous, flowing class.  Many poses bear weight on the hands and  poses will change from class to class, instructor to instructor.
4:00 "Mini" YIN Yoga - ahhhh, relaxing Yin.  Most poses are simple stretches while on the floor but held for multiple minutes.  Great for improving flexibility of connective tissues and quieting your mind.

After class stick around for an open house and celebration for our empowered 30 Day Yoga Challenge finishers from 5:00 - 7:00pm.  There will also be raffles and introductory specials for new students...like 30 days of unlimited yoga for $30!

For more info go to www.revivehotyoga.com and be sure to check out the "new student" section for how to prepare yourself for class.

Hope to see you Sunday!

(side note: my regular 4:00 and 5:15 classes this Sunday are canceled)

It's not just the leaves...

October is here and I have many exciting changes falling my way (haha, Fall...falling).  First, my truest partner and love, Dustin, proposed just two weekends ago to top off a great weekend of camping at Ocean Shores.  Essentially, from the day we "finally met" we have been nearly inseparable and I am so excited to grow together throughout the many years to come.  He has given me so much inspiration and hope in creating passion for what you "do."  His endless support in helping me explore my passion brings me to my next announcement that I now am teaching 6 classes a week at Revive Hot Yoga in Bonney Lake (thanks babe, love you).

Arts & Crafts day!

Just finished crafting my sidewalk sign - I wanted something to bring with me to set outside of random places I'm teaching...like Good Karma (meant for independent contractors), running stores, community centers, etc.  I shopped around for one through sign shops and their like over $100!  I had no idea!  I figured since you see 8 of them every corner that they would be cheaper than that.  My boyfriend's mom had an old one laying around and she gave it to me - a steal of a deal (thanks Michelle)!  Some contact paper, white board and my signature stick figure later - it's all done!  The other side has my blog info and a business card holder on it.  Watch out for it on a sidewalk near you!

Tah-Dah!

Attitude Check

I loves stories that make me feel incredibly lazy and like a quitter.  Weird?
For example, we all know it’s “Shark Week” on Discovery channel (YEAH!)…and they just aired a true story called “Adrift: 47 days with Sharks.”   It’s about 3 guys during WWII stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, with sharks, after their plane went down.  47 DAYS!  Seriously?
Or there’s the movie “127 Hours” where the dude actually cuts his arm off after it being pinned under a rock in the middle of the Utah desert for 127 hours.  I complain for days about a paper cut!
The stories always make me say “wow, I need to buck up!”  They give me a little huge reminder that life is great and we need to take advantage of it – and I love that.
My friend Tara emailed this video today (thanks Tara!).  I have seen it before but every time I watch I am left almost speechless.  Then I immediately am in awe of the power of PMA (Positive Mental Attitude, for those of you who did not go to sports camps as a kid).  Every situation you come across you have a choice to make of how you feel about it.  Sometimes you can react and stomp your foot (as I am famous for doing) or you can take a deep breath, go slowly step by step and be positive.  I read an excellent article that talked about “building a habit of positive language.”  Remove the words “never”, “can’t”, and “won’t” from your vocabulary.  One of my biggest pet peeves is hearing people say “I can’t do yoga” or “I can’t _______” – it makes me sad.  Because seriously, you could do “it” if you changed your attitude.  Having a positive attitude is so much more freeing, powerful and happier than having an unsure, fearful and negative attitude...so why not?!
Watch this video – be amazed (and feel super lazy about yourself) and then go on with the rest of your day having a PMA!

Hello Sunshine!

Enough said, right?!

I hope everyone has a great weekend in the hot weather (feels like the first one us Washiontonians have had this summer).  Now, just because you're not inside at your favoriate yoga studio doesn't mean you can't make yoga apart of your weekend.  Take a minute and think about how you can bring yoga out on your sunny adventures....break out Tree Pose at the peak of a hike, do a few Tadasana Shoulder Rolls after wakeboarding or let loose and try a Headstand at the park.  Working on poses in the great outdoors gives you a chance to truely enjoy the beauty of your surroundings.  Close you eyes, feel the warmth of the sun, hear the birds, smell the grass and just smile.

In effort to strengthen my yoga practice, I am going to be working very hard on what I like to call "Water-Floatie Savasana" - while tied to a dock on Lake Tapps...boy, it could take hours for me to get it right.

Enjoy being creative and finding your own outdoor yoga adventure.

Special Event @ Good Karma (Center for Joy)

My last event on July 8th was so well received we're going to do it again!  This time, while reviewing what we learned in our "Intro to Power Yoga" session, we will add more poses to our sequence.  I still want to keep this beginner friendly and utlitize the open Q&A type setting.   Start your Sunday right and come see how the 5 pillars of Power Yoga can benefit you...what were they again?  Breath, Flow, Heat, Gaze and Core Stabilization...nice work everyone.  Mark your calendars!

Show Up & Shine

I just got home from teaching…a real yoga class at a real studio!

Last night, I guest taught my first ever class at Revive Hot Yoga as an audition.  I was so excited and nervous I had a rough time sleeping the night before and was hardly able to eat anything all day – like crazy “first date” butterflies.  Thankfully the people who know me best, especially the wonderful guy from my most recent first date and my yoga home group, reminded me of how THIS is what I had been training for and I was more than ready and capable.  I met up with the owner of Revive Hot Yoga before class to go over lighting, heating, music….and oh by the way, herself and two other instructors from the school would be taking my class – no pressure, right?!  It was a 75 minute class and looking back there are about 50 things I would change about it but ultimately it felt great and people actually seemed to enjoy it.  What a relief!

Finally, after years of dreaming, 5 months of school and getting all of my ducks in a row so I could get a job – I am a Yoga Teacher, with a schedule and students.  Now I feel like I can finally relax and come into myself as a teacher…and as a yogi…and as a person.  No more racing.  Only growing.  I was able to teach again tonight and what a difference I already feel.  Starting from first thing this morning, I was excited to get up, even when my alarm went off at 5:30am.  Work at the office was especially trying today...we were short staffed , doctors were yelling, patients were crying – it was all pretty standard post full moon day drama (as anyone in the medical field can relate too).  Today I felt different though.   I knew I had a bigger purpose for today.  I was so excited to step into the studio, smile at the other yogis and lead them through the best 75 minutes I could.    I felt so trusted, needed and respected for those 75 hot minutes.  It was my responsibility to give these sweaty people something to walk away with.  I want to ensure that when they pick up their cell phone - before they’ve even left they parking lot – they say “I’m just leaving yoga, it was a great class.”

There were only about 49 things that I would change about class today and I can’t wait to do it again on Thursday.

I am ready NOW

Hmm, a blog huh? Well, I’ve never had one before – but why not.  I wanted a place that as I grow in teaching yoga, it will grow with me.  An easy place to list my schedule of different places and times I’m teaching so people (even without Facebook) can know where I’m at.   I thought a blog would be a good place to start.

So here it is.

Right now with a completely empty teaching schedule, haha.

I graduated from Yoga Teacher Training 3 days ago.  This incredible 5 month, 200 hour program at Be Luminous Yoga in Seattle gave me an abundance of new knowledge, friends and life lessons.  This venture was quite literally full of blood, sweat and tears - and I loved it.  During month #2, our group of 24 bonded Teacher Trainee’s came together and formed a Commitment Statement to ourselves and to our community –  DARE TO BE OF SERVICE TO INSPIRE, EMPOWER AND ILLUMINATE MYSELF AND OTHERS (I like how it sounds better when you yell it).  This brief but powerful statement truly resonates with me.  As I go out to teach yoga, I will be fearless and strive to co-create an experience for people that will light them up during the class and after.  With that, I hope to use this blog as my home base and as a tool to explore my authenticity.   In my own Britney way, I want to make this blog informative and motivating but also casual and accessible.

I am ready now...for teaching, blogging and possibility….so bring it.  Thanks for reading and I hope to see you in the studio soon!

Namaste.

My Certificate - I DID IT!
